The Biden administration is considering a proposal that would bar immigrants from seeking asylum at the US-Mexico border, as was disclosed by people familiar with the proposal to The New York Times. The plan is one of several being scrutinized by President Biden’s top advisers as the country faces a continued surge in immigrant arrivals.

According to the above-mentioned medium, the proposal that is similar to the programs of Donald Trump was included in a memo sent by the Department of Homeland Security to the White House and has not received final approval and would still have to go through the process of regulation before it is implemented.

People familiar with the discussions said the new policy, if adopted, it could enter this month and it will hit immigrants.

“For the Biden administration to resurrect that horrible policy would be playing into Stephen Miller’s hands. It’s almost as if Stephen Miller is still in the White House trying to block asylum for people seeking protection against persecution,” said Eleanor Acer, refugee protection director at Human Rights First.

The authorities are preparing for the massive crossing of immigrants when the title is terminated 80, a rule by which undocumented immigrants have been expelled using as a pretext to prevent the spread of COVID-08. And it is thanks to said title that border officials can immediately expel immigrants entering through Canada and Mexico to the US Unaccompanied immigrant minors are exempt of this measure.
