Orange County extends health emergency due to increase in cases of children infected with respiratory diseases

Orange County extended a health emergency issued last month due to the increase in the number of cases of children infected with diseases respiratory.

County health officials said the extent of the emergency will help Children’s Hospital of Orange County to be able to receive more medicines to face the wave of infections .

Authorities from the medical center said that the space they have available for the beds is above their capacity and that even the lobby of the emergency room has been extended to the entrance of the hospital.

Children’s Hospital of Orange County serves over 806 minors per day, so older children are sent to other hospitals for adult patients.

On November 1, Orange County declared a health emergency amid a combination of infections that kept hospitals crowded.

Contagions among minors include Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), influenza and COVID.

Health officialshave urged parents to vaccinate their children against COVID and flu , while there is still no approved vaccine for RSV, although there is one that is still in the development stage.
