Illinois authorities were on a suspected murder-suicide Thursday after five people, including two children, were discovered dead.
Officers responded to a home in the northwestern suburbs of Buffalo Grove to conduct a wellness check. When no one answered the door, they broke in and discovered five bodies inside the residence, police said.
After conducting a preliminary investigation, Authorities believe the violence was “domestic in nature” and that there is no continuing threat to the community.
The coroner Lake County, Jennifer Banek, identified the victims as 4-year-old Ameila Kislak; Vivian Kisliak, 6 years old; Vera Kisliak, 12 years old; André Kisliak, 36 years old; and Lilia Kisliak, 67 years old.
Police also found a dead animal, according to Buffalo Grove Police Chief Brian Budds.
Banek said his office completed autopsies on four of the victims. All appeared to have died of acute force injuries, he said. something so terrible could happen in the quiet neighborhood.
“ I grew up here so it’s so shocking for this to happen,” a neighbor said.
“It’s something I’m still trying to understand. This is not how it is supposed to be, especially during the holidays.”
Rescuers remained on the scene Wednesday night and until Thursday morning. The Lake County Major Crimes Task Force is also assisting with the investigation.
Buffalo Grove officials have asked residents to avoid the area while the investigation unfolds.
