Greg Abbott sent two buses with more than 42 immigrants from Texas to Philadelphia as part of its Lone Star operation, which aims to send massive undocumented immigrants to different sanctuary cities. Among the immigrants were women and children.
According to NBC 10, immigrants arrived at the street station 10 from the city without the necessary conditions to be covered from the cold that plagues the state; many of them arrived in T-shirts and it was the local authorities who provided them with a blanket to cover themselves.
On this occasion, the immigrants who predominated on the buses were from
Nicaragua, Colombia and Dominican Republic.
As did New York Mayor Eric Adams, his Philadelphia counterpart, Jim Kenney, called Greg Abbott’s actions “political theater” and even called him “insensitive” for not coordinating a trip with dozens of people seeking asylum.
“Frankly irresponsible and insensitive to do this without prior notice and without coordination, showing a flagrant disregard for the sanctity of human lives,” said Kenney.
NBC also indicated that the immigrants were taken to a shelter where they were offered food before transferring them to their final destinations.
The executive director of the community organization Together pointed out that both Philadelphia and other cities have the capacity to accommodate immigrants “I think part of it is that you expect cities to fail, and I think there is the myth of the shortage. That we don’t have enough resources to welcome immigrant communities, and that’s actually not true ” .
Greg Abbott has been sending immigrants to cities run by Democrats for several months, such as New York, Washington, DC and Chicago as part of a “wake-up call” to the Biden Administration in the face of the crisis at the border.
