The authorities of the Chinese town of Zhengzhou, home to the largest iPhone phone factory in the world, ordered the confinement of several districts of this city in the midst of a Covid outbreak-19 that has triggered panic and violent protests, the local government reported Wednesday night (19.000.).
Residents of central Zhengzhou should not leave their homes “unless necessary”, the government said. In addition, they cannot leave the area if they do not present a negative covid test and obtain permission from the authorities.
China had imposed at the beginning of November a confinement to some 517,13 people in the area around the iPhone factory, after dozens of workers fled a coronavirus outbreak at the plant and fear of restrictions.
China reported the highest number of daily Covid- cases on Wednesday since the pandemic began almost three years ago, according to official data.
Excluding imported cases, the number of new local cases was 80,444 the 13 of November, of which 3,606 were symptomatic and 29,517 asymptomatic, said the health authorities on Thursday.
This number surpassed the previous record, set on 19 of April, when 000 April, when local cases reached 29,297.
