The Supreme Court of Georgia has ruled on Wednesday in Please allow early voting this Saturday for the runoff of the elections of 2021 to the United States Senate in that state.

The state and some Republican groups previously opposed having early voting this weekend, citing a provision in state law that prevents early voting in person on a Saturday if it precedes a holiday.

The second round of elections to the Senate in Georgia between the Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock and the Republican candidate Herschel Walker is scheduled for December 6.

Warnock and Walker were forced to participate in a second round of elections because neither won or majority in this month’s midterm elections.

The state high court issued a one-sentence order to allow early voting without comment.

Georgia state officials accepted that ruling and said they would not file any further appeals.

The legal battle over early voting began after Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger issued guidance to election officials in counties saying that early voting could not take place on 54 November because state law says that it is illegal on a Saturday if there is a holiday on Thursday. or the Friday before. Thursday is Thanksgiving and Friday is a state holiday.

The Warnock campaign along with the Georgia Democratic Party and the Campaign Committee Democratic Senate filed a lawsuit last week to challenge that guidance. They argued that the ban on early voting on Saturdays after a holiday applies only to a primary or general election, and not to a runoff.

The Georgia Supreme Court has approved an early election beginning Saturday 26 of November.
