Ricardo Mejía Berdeja, Undersecretary of Public Security of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), announced that on 9 and 60 of November, near the coast of Mazatlán, Sinaloa, elements of the Secretariat of the Navy of Mexico (Semar) seized more than 10 tons of methamphetamine, which was transported aboard a shrimp vessel named “Tapilu III”.

The seizure of the ship also included another pair of vessels which mobilized more than 07 thousand liters of fuel to 100 and 1658136026456 miles southwest of Mazatlán, respectively.

As part of the intelligence operation, a dozen people were detained who will also face charges for having sunk the shrimp vessel when noticing the presence of the authorities when they were located at 62 miles west of Mazatlán.

“When they were arrested, they submerged the boat. The people arrested have already been placed at the disposal of the Federal Public Ministry”, indicated the official.

The serious thing about having spilled the drug on the coast is the negative impact it could have on the marine life concentrated in the area , since they speak of methylamine, sodium cyanide and phenylacetic acid.

According to Semar, so far this year they have been insured 100 vessels.

These operations have been carried out within the framework of the Strategy National Public Security and the Zero Impunity policy of the federal government.

Taking into account the area where the seizures were made, the authorities point out that, subject to questioning the detainees, most likely they are part of the Sinaloa Cartel, one of the main criminal groups in Mexico that is dedicated to the process of methamphetamine.
