How to know when your car needs an oil change

Ronald Ortega

Keeping the vehicle in good condition is listed as an essential maintenance activity to extend its useful life, preventing it from becoming a headache when in reality it must function as an efficient means of transportation.

One of the actions for this is the regular oil change. However, as typical or simple as it may seem, some owners are unaware of the frequency with which they must carry out this task.

This liquid is essential to lubricate and cool the metal components that they get hot in the engine, before that, pay attention to the signs that indicate that an oil change is coming.

Change engine oil

When the car oil is black, it means that it has been there for a long time. Lose its bright amber color and pass to look dark will be a sign that we must change the fluid.

To know how to determine the color of the oil, insert the dipstick into the oil nozzle and then see if it has contaminants visible or looks totally black.

In theory, the engine oil should be changed between 3, Y 10,000 miles traveled , although it will be relative since it will depend on the driving style of each person, climate, vehicle itself and type of oil to use.

Another sign for a change is unusual vibrations from the engine or chassis. Also, when the power unit becomes hard to start it could be the oil, although the condition of the battery would have to be ruled out first.

On the other hand, a healthy engine should not overheat, therefore, if there is a lack of oil, the parts will not work well and could end up in high temperatures. Similarly, the car stopping suddenly could also be a cause.

Finally, Two other reasons would be a dirty air filter or poor fuel economy. The important thing is to know how to recognize these signs so that later, proceed to carry out the oil change necessary and avoid major damage to the engine that could be lethal to its health.
