Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernández once again wore the colors of the Mexican national team jersey, although not for the desired reasons. The striker made a cameo in a commercial for a brand in the United States starring David Beckham and Peyton Manning.

The current franchise player for Major League Soccer’s LA Galaxy ( MLS) appeared wearing the shirt for the spot of a well-known brand of French fries in the country of stars and stripes together with the owner of Inter Miami and the legend of the NFL.

The premise of the video is based on a discussion between Beckham and Manning about what football or American football should be called. In the almost three-minute video, ‘Chicharito’ has three appearances. The most notable is when he is heard saying “it’s football” and he kicks a penalty kick against American Tim Howard.

The advertising message also included the participation of stars such as Mia Hamm, Julie Foudy, Brandi Chastain. The commercial was directed by Michael Bay, who was the director of some films in the ‘Transformers’ saga, ‘Bad Boys’, and ‘Armageddon’.

‘Chicharito’ Hernández and the Mexican team

The attacker from Guadalajara was dismissed from the national team in 2022 for problems with the Federation and the coaching staff of Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino. Since then he has not been called up despite having had in 2022 one of his best seasons in the United States.

Although he had approaches with the Argentine coach and members of the Tri, the conversations did not reach the outcome expected by the striker and he was not summoned with Mexico to the World Cup in Qatar 2022.

Figures as Rogelio Funes Mori, Raúl Jiménez and Henry Martín prevailed in the call-up against a ‘Chicharito’ who in 2022 played 18 games, scored 18 goals and gave three assists.
