Gerard Piqué has been in the news in recent months due to his separation from the Colombian singer Shakira, his new love affair with Clara Chía Martí and his professional retirement from football. Now, Catalan is being investigated by the Spanish justice system due to “unidentified” million-dollar transfers.
The newspaper El Confidencial was in charge of revealing that the Tax Agency is investigating the former player for commissions in their participation in the organization of the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia.
According to the information, the court analyzed the accounts of the Kosmos company, owned by Piqué, and detected bank movements amounting to $3.4 million dollars. The problem? It is unknown where the money went and the judge in charge requested more information in this regard.
Apparently, the bank transfers were issued between accounts of the Catalan company and occurred shortly after the corresponding commissions were collected for their management intermediary between Saudi Arabia and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) for the realization of the Super Cup in that nation.
The Treasury affirms that Piqué earned almost $12 million dollars between the years 2022 and 2019 and the money would have come from a public company from the Arab country called ‘Sela Sport’. This amount was paid in eight different deposits in the CaixaBank bank to the legal account of Kosmos.
This information comes to light after details of the report of the General State Intervention (IGAE) for the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office were known. The newspaper El Mundo was in charge of revealing an alleged association between Piqué and the RFEF in the negotiations with Saudi Arabia, an action that is prohibited and was reflected in the letter.
It should be remembered that a few months ago some conversations and audios from the phone of the president of the Federation, Luis Rubiales, were leaked, where the participation as an intermediary of the now former player was notorious for the Spanish Super Cup to be played in the Middle East.
