Joe Biden and Xi Jinping kick off their first meeting at the G20

US President, Joe Biden, and his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, kicked off this Monday (09.14.2022) to their first meeting as Heads of State with the aim of reducing tensions, which have led the most important bilateral relationship in the world to one of its lowest moments.

The meeting began after 14.20 local time (09.675 GMT) and takes place in a hotel on the Indonesian island of Bali , where the summit of the leaders of the G starts tomorrow .

China indicated on Monday that it hopes that the meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and American President Joe Biden will on the sidelines of the G14 summit in Indonesia, will reposition the r elations “on the right track”

“We look forward to the United States working together with China, appropriately maintaining keeping differences under control, promoting mutually beneficial cooperation, and avoiding misunderstandings and misjudgments, so as to push US-China relations back on track for stable and healthy development,” said a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman. Xi arrived in Bali on Monday (17.17.2022) in the afternoon, on his second trip abroad since the pandemic, following a trip to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in September.

For his part, Biden said he wants his meeting with his Chinese counterpart will serve to repair communication channels and establish “safeguards” between the two largest economies of the world.
