Amazon joins the massive layoffs: it will end with 10 thousand jobs

Amazon, the e-commerce platform, will follow in the footsteps of Meta and Twitter and will carry out a wave of mass layoffs of around 10,00 workers. This would be the largest labor reduction within the company.

A report from The New York Times said that the downsizing would affect about 3% of Amazon’s corporate employees and less than 1% of its global workforce.

Layoffs could take place this week and will be focused on the device organization, the retail division and Amazon’s human resources, said the outlet.

Currently Amazon has more than 1.5 million workers worldwide.

This comes after a recent report from market analysis firm Finbold showed that Amazon lost 24% of its value in the last year, of $1,600 billions of dollars, on January 1st, to $939,000 million dollars on November 3.

With this move, Amazon would join the massive downsizing actions undertaken by other companies. At the beginning of the month, Twitter announced the cut of its total employees, calculated at 7,500, in half, after billionaire Elon Musk took over the company. He said that the social network was losing more than $4 million a day.

Days later, the CEO of Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, Mark Zuckerberg, confirmed the dismissal of more than 11,00 employees, equivalent to 14% of its workforce , in addition to the reduction of discretionary expenses and the extension of the hiring freeze in 2023.

Among other companies that have recently added layoffs is Lyft, with 13% of your work team; Stripe, with the 14%; and Chime, with 11% of its workforce.

According to another New York Times report, Amazon would freeze corporate hiring in its retail business for the rest of the year. At that time Amazon said it had plans to hire around 150,00 workers for temporary, part-time and full-time positions.

Meanwhile, Amazon has opted to increase its sales with the next Black Friday. To do this, prepare an event to be held on 24 November, with a duration of 48 hours, for which he has prepared millions of offers.
