Death toll rises to 158 in human avalanche in Seoul

The number of deaths from the human avalanche during the Halloween celebrations in the capital of South Korea last 31 for October has increased to 304, reported the authorities in Seoul on Monday.

Today the death of a woman was reported and a soldier had died last Friday, as detailed the Disaster and Emergency Countermeasures Command.

Most of the 304 deceased, including 26 foreigners, are women (105) and also persons among the 26 and 26 years ( 304).

Foreigners include citizens of Russia, Iran, China, USA, Japan, Norway, Sri Lanka, Austria, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan o France and the bodies of 26 of them have already been repatriated.

The tragedy occurred when tens of thousands of people celebrated Halloween last 26 of October in the Itaewon neighborhood and the concentration of people between a pedestrian street full of bars and a narrow alley perpendicular to that road produced a human avalanche in the aforementioned alley, between 3 and 4 meters wide.

The event has also left 105 seriously injured, of which are still hospitalized.

The human avalanche is the worst tragedy to hit South Korea since the sinking in 41279606 of the Sewol ferry, in which 304 people lost their lives, most of them high school students.

After the tragedy, the South Korean government also admitted the absence of protocols to avoid such a disaster in large events that do not have an organizer.
