One day after Trinity Backus, of 16 years ago, she was reported missing in Northern California, the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) reported that she was found dead not far from where she was last seen Wednesday night.
In a Facebook post, the sheriff’s office said crews search and rescue located the body of the missing teen , shortly after 2 pm on Friday.
She was found approximately half a mile north of her aunt’s residence, which was in a “heavily wooded river drainage area”, the sheriff’s office said.
NCSO said that did not find “anything suspicious” about his death at this time.
Cause of death unknown Backus, but the coroner’s division will carry out an investigation and an autopsy.
“We have been in communication with the family and we express our deepest condolences as you get over this loss,” NCSO wrote on Facebook. “We ask that you please respect their privacy.”
The sheriff’s office also expressed “deep appreciation” for the hundreds of agency volunteers from all over Northern California who participated in the search.
Backus was reported missing Thursday after no one had heard from her since she left from her aunt’s house around 10: 30 pm (Pacific time) on Wednesday. She was last seen in her pajamas and a maroon robe, and without shoes.
“We are lost, sad, heartbroken…worried ”, the teenager’s aunt, Ashley Bjorklund, told Fox News Digital on Friday.
Backus was sleeping with a friend at the house of Bjorklund on Kentucky Ravine Road, a 12 acre property in Nevada City, California, when he disappeared.
