Biden after victory in the Senate: “I am going stronger” to meeting with Xi Jinping

President Joe Biden, said on Sunday that the unexpected favorable results in the mid-term elections they leave him in a stronger position facing the meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping.

“I know I’m going stronger,” Biden said in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, where he meets leaders at the summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

“I feel good and looking forward to the next two years,” he added after learning that the Democrats retained control of the US Senate with a victory in Nevada.

Biden will first meet Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang at the East Asia Summit to be held in Cambodia on Sunday, a step prior to meeting with Xi.

He will also speak with various Asian leaders, including the allies of the United States, South Korea and Japan. Biden promised that the US would cooperate with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations on common challenges such as the South China Sea and the escalation of violence in Myanmar.

Democrats retained control of the United States Senate with 11 seats, in view of the impending victory of legislator Catherine Cortez Masto in the state of Nevada, according to projections released by the main US media.
