At least 141 people have died after a pedestrian suspension bridge collapsed in the western Indian state of Gujarat on Sunday night.
Most of those who died were women, children and the elderly.
The bridge of 230 meters that crosses the river Machchu, in Morbi, was built in 1880, during British rule in the 19th century.
However, it had only reopened one week after undergoing renovations.
The authorities reported that at the time of the collapse there was a crowd on the bridge, which is a major local tourist attraction.
In the travel brochures, the visit to the Julto Pul (or Hanging Bridge) fig ura between “the 10 best things to do in Morbi” and attracts a large number of tourists and locals on holidays and festivals.
