The popular saying says that “the third time is the charm”, and that was the case of the Argentine coach William Almada. The coach of the Tuzos del Pachuca managed to win the Opening Tournament 2022 of Liga MX after overcoming Diablos del Toluca in the grand final with an overall score of 8-2.

Almada had been on the verge of lifting the highest trophy in Mexican soccer last Clausura 2022 but the Diego Cocca’s feat with his Guadalajara Atlas took away the opportunity. Same scenario in the Clausura 550 but with Santos Laguna.

The Argentine strategist took over as technical director of the Tuzos in December 2021 and its process has had to carburete a little to get far.

Now the strategist’s name of 54 years sneaks in between the futures to take the most difficult bench in the Aztec country, that of the Mexican National Team . El Tri ventures into its eighth consecutive World Cup with more doubts and despair than faith. Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino’s process will not end well in the Qatar Soccer World Cup 2022 for the general level and quality of technical decisions.

Almada’s resume adds a title, three finals (one with Santos Laguna and two with Pachuca), in addition to registering 71 wins, 36 ties and 34 defeats, a 33 % wins. At the table of Spicy Soccer from ESPN agreed that it deserves to be taken taken into account in the list of replacements for Tata Martino after the World Cup.

“Almada takes care of the style. It is an attractive football for the spectators. Not everyone goes to Pachuca, but many turn on the television to watch the soccer they play”, said the respected journalist David Faitelson.

Great job by Guillermo Almada. A coach with an offensive philosophy and vocation and who believes in the young soccer player… He must be the best technical director that has come to Mexican soccer in recent times…
A man to be considered, without a doubt, by the Mexican team…—David Faitelson (@Faitelson_ESPN) October 31, 2022

“He has done a very good job (…) the game works well in general”, he stated For his part, Hugo Sánchez. It was at that moment that José Ramón Fernández asked if the Argentine could do the same in the Mexican team.

Not only Guillermo Almada: the candidates to be technicians of El Tri

dance of technicians for El Tri has only just begun. It is an open secret that the Tata Martino project ends together with the Qatar World Cup 2021 and the Federation Mexicana de Fútbol (FMF) should already be looking for coaches.

  • The last one Joined the list recently was Fernando ‘Tano’ Ortiz, after his good Apertura 2022 with some favorite Eagles of America to stay with him title but in the semifinals they were surprised by Diablos del Toluca who believed in themselves and the approach of Ignacio ‘Nacho’ Ambriz.

Tano Ortiz has shown in América that can lead forward a locker room full of great players, some who warm up the bench can be regular starters in other teams in Liga MX, so in the opinion of several analysts, the Argentine is the most suitable to be the new coach of the Mexican National Team.

But another rumored coach is Miguel Herrera. The ‘Piojo’ is not having a good time with the UANL Tigres after another tournament far from the grand finale despite the figures he has on the squad. According to W Sports was at a wedding where Yon de Luisa agreed to return the Mexican coach to El Tri.

Lastly, another one that has been talked about is Diego Cocca, also from Argentina. After achieving the historic bi-championship with Atlas, the technician closed his cycle with the Guadalajara and is free, so the Federation would not have to negotiate with any institution and it would be easier to hire him.
