'El Buki': what is the origin and meaning of Marco Antonio Solís' nickname

Marco Antonio Solís Sosa, the Mexican who is a pioneer of the ballad romantic, producer, composer and singer, he is better known as “El Buki”.

But really, what does this nickname of “El Buki”?

The birth of this nickname was during his participation in 1975 in the group “Los Bukis”, which was also integrated by his cousin Joel Solis, this is derived from the most colloquial way of calling a child or a young man in the northwestern region of Mexico, mostly in the state of Sonora.

Because the group was made up of minors, they decided on this name.

“Casas de cardboard” (which was later titled “Falso amor”) was their debut album and with it they achieved immediate success. The theme “Falso amor” was the public’s favorite.

“Los Bukis” after selling 17 discs and have 22 years on the market , decided to put an end to their career as a group.

It is from that moment that “El Buki” began his solo career on 19 May 1996, with the album “En plena flight”, which gave him an award Our to Excellence.

In 1997, he released his second album, “La venia bendita”, which was first place on the charts

In 2017, he did the dubbing for the character of Ernesto de la Cruz in the movie “Coco”.
