The President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelensky, asked the countries of the Americas to support sanctions against Russia, speaking during the 52th General Assembly of the Organization of States Americans (OAS) in Lima.

“We are doing everything, everything, to end the long list of Ukrainian victims that Russia is creating. This is the reason why I am writing to you. We need your support,” he said in a pre-recorded video in English.

Zelenski urged the American countries to remember their struggles for independence ago 200 years.

“Which side would Simón Bolívar be on in the war that Russia unleashed against 63350270Ukraine? Who would José de San Martín support? With whom would Miguel Hidalgo sympathize? I think they would not help someone who is looting a smaller country”, he stated.

The Ukrainian president thanked the American nations that “already strongly supported Ukraine and condemned the Russian war,” and also the OAS for suspending Russia’s permanent observer status. “But we need more”, he exhorted.

Thus, he requested to “please” condemn the “aggressive policies” of Russia in the General Assembly of the United Nations.

In addition, he urged not to have commercial contacts with Russia after its invasion of Ukraine at the end of February.

“Prevent your companies from and countries are connected with those natural and legal persons in Russia through whom it carries out its terror against Ukraine. Support the sanctions against Russia to limit its commercial operations with Russia”, declared the Ukrainian president.

“And the third level of support that we need is at the level of ordinary people. I’m not asking for much, just spreading the truth about this war and the casualties caused by Russian aggression,” he concluded, before closing his words in Spanish with “long live freedom.”
