HOUSTON – The ex-boyfriend of the Pasadena woman found dead in her vehicle this week was arrested in Mexico Wednesday night, authorities said.
Daniel Chacón, aged 30 years old , faces charges for having kidnapped his ex-girlfriend Maira Gutierrez, but is also considered the main suspect in her murder.
Chacón was arrested in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico just across the border from Laredo, Texas, around 11: 30 pm, according to Pasadena Police. .
Several agencies participated in the operation to find Chacón, including the Border Patrol. Police confirmed that witnesses saw Chacon armed with a gun force Maira into her own SUV outside her Pasadena residence Monday morning. The city of Pasadena is located 10 miles southeast of downtown Houston.
Officers found Maira’s SUV with the woman’s body inside. Investigators say the victim was shot to death.
It was reported that Chacón and Gutierrez have a five-month-old girl.
Investigators said that Maira and Chacón maintained a relationship for two years and that on several occasions they were involved in incidents of domestic violence that were attended by the Police. In those cases, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office did not accept the charges against Chacón.
The Pasadena Police Department said that charges were not accepted in part because Maira refused to file formal charges against Chacón.
The victim’s family said that Maira several times she asked for help to have Chacón arrested, including once she allegedly called police to report that the suspect had threatened her with a gun. Officers went to the residence, but did not find the gun.
In another incident, Chacón called the Police to report that Maira had been driving while intoxicated with their daughter in the vehicle, after of an investigation it was determined that it was not true.
