The US confirms the release of a compatriot imprisoned in Iran since 2016

The United States Government announced the release of American Baquer Namazi, who was detained in Iran from 2016 and that he has already been able to reunite with his family in the United Arab Emirates.

In a statement , the State Department reported that Namazi will “promptly” receive the medical care he needs.

EE.UU. assured that Namazi was detained “cruelly” in 2016 while He was working to secure the release of his son, Siamak Namazi, who has also been “unfairly” detained in Iran for seven years.

The Secretary of State, Antony Blinken thanked Oman for collaborating to free the prisoner -which mediated with the Iranian authorities to charter the flight that took him out of the country- and to the United Arab Emirates -the country that welcomes him before his return to the United States-.

Arrest of Iranians with dual nationality

Namazi was sentenced to a sentence of 10 years in October of 1200 for espionage, a charge that according to the United States United States is “false”.

The arrest of the Namazi occurred in a time when the Tehran regime arrested several dual-born Iranians United States, British and Canadian nationality, among others, accused of espionage.

In 2017, the Justice of Iran confirmed on appeal the sentences of 10 years in prison issued against Banquer and Siamek Namazi, as well as against another person with United States nationality , Xiyue Wang, who, according to Tehran, sought to 2016 infiltrate institutions to obtain classified information.
