Mexico registers 18 mayors executed in the government of López Obrador

The assassination of Conrado Mendoza Almeida, mayor of Totolapan, Guerrero, along with others 12 people, including his father, is a fact that reflects the wave of violence that plagues all of Mexico.

And while the President Andrés Manuel López Obrador defends his security strategy known as “Hugs, not bullets”, the list of executed municipal presidents continues to grow.

According to data from the consulting firm Etellekt, So far this Mexican government adds up to 18 mayors murdered at the hands of organized crime , in addition to 31 aldermen and 11 receivers, which is equivalent to a 25% more compared to what was recorded in the entire six-year term of Felipe Calderón.

In addition to Conrado Mendoza, this sad list is made up of other officials such as Rubén Valdez Díaz, mayor of Teopisca, Chiapas, shot to death on June 8, 2022, when he left his house in his vehicle.

César Arturo Valencia, municipal president of Aguililla, Michoacán, also died at the hands of a hit man on 10 March 2022, when he was on board his truck outside a soccer field.

Likewise, there were cases in which officials disappeared and days later were found dead, as happened with Enrique Velázquez Orozco , mayor of Contepec, Michoacán, or Alfredo Sevilla, who governed the municipality of Casimiro Castillo, Jalisco.

Data from the consulting firm Etellekt reveal that all these attacks were committed in 54% of the entities in the country, with Oaxaca being the state with the most victims, with 12 cases.

For their part, the State of Mexico and Michoacán reported seven cases each; Veracruz, 6; Warrior, 4; Chihuahua, Guanajuato and Sonora, with three cases; Chiapas, Jalisco, Morelos, Puebla and Sinaloa, with two reports, and Baja California, Coahuila, Hidalgo and Tamaulipas, with one record.
