Hispanic Man Arrested on Suspect in Merced County Family Kidnapping; the victims are still not located

A Hispanic man allegedly involved in the kidnapping of four members of a family, including an 8-month-old girl in Merced County , in central California, was arrested this Tuesday afternoon, authorities announced.

The four members have not been located so far .

The family was kidnapped Monday at gunpoint from a business in the city of Merced, the Merced County Sheriff’s Office said, without providing further details.

“We continue to request the collaboration of the public with any information that may help us locate the whereabouts of the family,” said the Office of the Sheriff.

The authorities reported that the suspect, the Hispanic Jesús Manuel Salgado, 48 years old, is hospitalized in critical condition after he attempted suicide.

According to reports received by the authorities, one of the ATM cards in the name of a victim was used in a bank in Atwater, a city located about 9 miles north of Merced.

The Case investigators obtained information linking Salgado to the family’s kidnapping. The Hispanic suspect attempted suicide before police arrived.

Authorities did not disclose where the Hispanic man was arrested.

It was the family itself, which contacted the authorities to inform them that Salgado had admitted to them that he was involved in the kidnapping of the family.

The four kidnapped family members are Jasdeep Singh’s married couple, from 36 years old, and Jasleen Kaur, from 27 years old, with her daughter, Aroohi Dheri, 8 months old; as well as the minor’s uncle, Amandeep Singh, aged 39 years old.

The authorities said that the kidnappers had not demanded any ransom and there was no contact with the criminals.

The authorities are expected to offer more information on the case this Wednesday in a press conference.

Speaking to KXTV-TV, the family said they have a trucking company, and the four hostages were taken from an office that opened a week before.

On Monday, the Sheriff’s Office published two photographs of the possible suspect and requested the help of the community to identify the subject, but this Tuesday they reported that no it was about the suspicious person.

In a statement, the Merced County Sheriff reported that the ve Amandeep Singh’s vehicle had been located on fire on Monday at approximately 11: 40 am The authorities and family members were unable to communicate with him or his partner.

Shortly after, bailiffs went to the business and determined that they had been kidnapped.

The investigations are participating, in addition to the Merced County Sheriff’s Office, agents from the FBI and the California Department of Justice .

Apparently, this is not the first time that Salgado has held his victims against their will.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office of District of Merced County, a similar incident occurred in December of 2005. Salgado was arrested on charges of breaking and entering with a weapon, witness intimidation and attempted false imprisonment. The victims were not injured.

In June 2015, the Hispanic was released.
