What should have been a morning full of color, joy and passion almost turned into tragedy. The Colo-Colo fans attended the Monumental Stadium
to perform the popular “arengazo” before the Chilean soccer Classic against the Catholic University. In the midst of the hubbub, the roof of the stands in the Cordillera sector gave way and left several people injured.

Approximately attended 15,000 fans of the “Cacique” to encourage their team that will face the Clásico de Chile this Sunday, October 2. But what began as a colorful morning could have ended in tragedy when the stadium structure collapsed.

According to the Emergency Medical Care Service (SAMU), an entity dedicated to helping people who were at the scene, reported that there are eight people with minor injuries and another two who suffered fractures.

Since the field some players were able to witness the exact moment in which the roof of the stands fell . After the crash happened, the players went directly to the changing rooms.

“When We went up, it was said that something had happened. If something happened, I hope you are well. Second, what has been said repeatedly, was said by several players from other clubs, to insist that people behave. That on Sunday people come to cheer, that they enjoy this. Personally, it makes me a little angry to insist that people don’t do that, that they behave well, sometimes it’s a bit tiring when they don’t. It is for them and for us that we need all the parties to be present. I hope it doesn’t happen again, ”said the soccer player Maximiliano Falcón in statements compiled by Infobae.

This Sunday, Colo-Colo will receive the Catholic University in its stadium for the sixteenth day of Chilean soccer. The “Cacique” is in the first position of the championship, while “La Franja” arrives in the sixth position.
