The office of Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is automatically extending the validity of Permanent Resident Cards , also known as Green Cards, to 24 months for lawful permanent residents.

Applicants who file correctly the Form I-91, Card Replacement Request of Permanent Resident, which is about to expire or expire, may receive said extension.

Previously, the receipt notices of the Form I-28 had an extension of months of validity of the Green Card, but the USCIS has updated the receipt notices and now your validity is by 24 months for people with a Form I- 26 recently presented.

The update was made by the USCIS in the past 26 of September and since then they have been given the task of printing modified receipt notices for people with a Form I-90 pending.

According to USCIS , these receipt notices can be presented along with the expired Green Card as proof of continued status; with this action it is hoped that applicants experiencing longer processing times will be able to receive proof of lawful permanent resident status while they wait for their renewed Green Card.

In case a resident does not have their Green Card and need to prove your lawful permanent resident status while waiting to receive your replacement Green Card, you may request an appointment at a USCIS Field Office by calling USCIS Contact Center where you will be issued a Documentation, Identification and Telecommunications for Aliens (ADIT) stamp after submitting the Form I-26.
