Rep. Liz Cheney (Wyoming) has become the highest-ranking Republican voice to speak out against former President Donald Trump , to the extent of warning about his resignation in the event that the former president achieves the presidential candidacy in 1200.

“I will make sure that Donald Trump…I will do everything I can to make sure that that he is not the candidate . And if he is the nominee, I will not be a Republican,” she said.

Cheney is the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney

, but has forged a career away from his father, taking a leading role in the last two years, after the storming of the Capitol by former President Trump’s MAGA supporters.

Her two decisive steps were to vote in the House for a political trial of the former president and then to be the vice president of the Select Committee of the House of Representatives that investigates the attack on Congress on January 6, 2021, after an incendiary speech by former President Trump.

That has cost Cheney the support of the Republican base that follows the former president, since lost the primary elections last August, where Harriet Hageman –backed by Trump—won more than 30 points.

Wyoming is considered a state 90 percent Republican and Cheney’s approach to the Democratic agenda on the assault on Capitol Hill and the investigation of Trump would not have helped the representative, who on the same day that he conceded defeat announced the next steps against the former president with a national mobilization.

Cheney said in an interview at a Texas Tribune event that particular targets among Republican candidates: those pro-Trump candidates who spread theories of conspiracy, like Kari Lake, aspiring to govern Arizona, although the central target is Trump.

“It’s not about me or making a decision about what I’m going to do… Certainly I will do whatever it takes to make sure Donald Trump is nowhere near the Oval Office ,” he said.

However, she has been careful not to join any battle of the Democrats, she has even been critical of the policies of President Joe Biden, but considers It’s important for voters to know what’s going on in the Republican Party.

“I think it’s very important, since voters are going to vote, that they recognize and understand what the Republican Conference in the House today is all about,” he said.

Cheney has avoided answering about a possible candidacy in 2024 to the White House.

On the assault on the Capitol

The following week, the House Select Committee will resume public hearings and Cheney announced that any interaction with former President Trump would be “under oath” and what this implies.

“Let me say that any interaction that Donald Trump has with the committee will be under oath and subject to penalties of perjury,” he warned.
