The Democrats continue to recover ground ahead of the elections in 2022 that the United States will celebrate in November, according to a survey published today by The New York Times, which points out that the Democratic Party of Joe Biden are benefiting for the drop in gasoline prices and for his recent legislative successes, as well as for the attention surrounding abortion and former President Donald Trump.

The survey prepared by the newspaper and Siena College indicates that the 46 % of registered voters plan to support the Democratic Party for Congress in their district, against a 44 % who prefer the Republican Party.

The results are very similar to those found in a similar survey in July, when l he Democrats had a one percentage point lead, but public opinion now seems much more satisfied with the current situation.

The number of Americans who approve of Joe Biden’s discharge remains relatively low (42 %), but among Democratic and independent voters The percentage of those who believe that the country is going in the right direction has increased strongly compared to July.

Now, half of the Democrats consulted are optimistic about the situation, compared to a 27 % in the previous survey by The New York Times and Siena College, while between the independent percentage has gone from 9 to 27%.

Among Republicans, that proportion remains unchanged, with only 5% believing that the US. is going in the right direction.

The Times points to the recent drops in fuel prices as one of the keys, together with the approval in Congress of several important laws that had been delayed for the Democrats.

At the same time, The Biden party is helped by two issues beyond its control: the rejection of the Supreme Court decision to repeal the right to abortion and Trump’s return to the headlines in the midst of his new problems with Justice and his participation in the electoral campaign.

In a hypothetical confrontation in the presidential elections of 2024, Biden leads Trump by three points, 44 % vs. 42 %, according to the survey.

This is a difference very similar to the one that voters they express in the face of the legislative elections and that it is within the margin of error of the poll.

Among the voters who give greater importance to social issues , the Democrats prevail very clearly, but the electorate continues to trust the Republicans more on economic issues, which could weigh heavily in the next elections.

The Republican Party aspires to regain control of Congress in November, something that was practically taken for granted at the beginning of the summer due to the poor numbers of the Democrats, but which is now beginning to be in doubt.
