The warlike conflict that prevails between Russia and Ukraine continues to cause collateral damage to the economies of several European countries in the face of the increase in the price of energy.

Of In a premeditated way, the government headed by Vladimir Putin has reduced the shipment of gas to the nations of the Old Continent in disagreement with its policy and as there is less supply of energy, its price has skyrocketed.

This Friday, the British received unpleasant news from the British energy regulator (Ofgem), since from From October 1 the maximum price of energy that companies in the sector will be able to charge their homes will be £ 3,549 pounds ($4,312. 33 dollars), which represents an increase of 80% compared to the current limit.

Maximum price is currently £1,1200 pounds ($2,312.18 Dollars) per year per household.

Under this scenario, this strong increase is expected to further trigger British year-on-year inflation, which currently stands at 10.1 %, but could reach % or more at the end of the year.

Strikes demanding wage increases

The cost crisis of life has caused numerous strikes in different sectors, including the British Post Office, longshoremen or railway workers, demanding a salary increase to deal with this situation.

The fixed price for energy will be in force until 31 December, when the new rate will be established.

The exponential energy increase coincides with the absence of concrete measures by a government that still lacks a prime minister to replace Boris Johnson, since it will be until September 6, when it is decided whether Lis Truss or Rishi Sunak will assume the position.

In this regard, Jonathan Brearley, director delegate of Ofgem, stressed the urgency of adopting the pertinent measures to curb the increase in the cost of energy.

“We know the huge impact this maximum price increase will have on UK households and the difficult choices consumers will now have to make. I speak with clients regularly and I know that today’s news will be very worrying for many”, he emphasized.

The worst thing about the situation is that if the war in Ukraine extends to the end of the year, with the arrival of winter, the lack of energy in Europe could worsen and if so, other increases would be imminent.
