Amanda Sesio , of 23 years, is the protagonist of this story. The woman traveled from New Zealand to the United States for the wedding of her cousins; however, being close to his loved ones ended up being the worst decision of his life.

And it is that upon arrival at the Los Angeles Airport he began to experience “chills and extreme tiredness”, which which he attributed to the long trip he undertook from the oceanic country, which ranges between 12 and 18 hours.

The symptoms, far from disappearing, prevailed and intensified , since he began with difficulty breathing and pain in his chest and back, for which he had to go to the hospital. “When you have all the doctors and nurses walking around, you think: it’s bad,” he told a New Zealand media outlet.

At the time thought he had contracted COVID-19, but what he really had was pneumococcus, which led to hypoxemic respiratory failure, blood infections and that his lungs began to fill with fluid.

“I am a relatively healthy person, young and fit, with no health problems. I don’t smoke or drink and I had never been sick at this level”, she elaborated on this experience that became even more complicated when had to be in intensive care.

“When I woke up, I still had the tubes in and I was very dazed from so much medication”.

After what happened, she was able to return to her native country; however, did it with an account of 150 thousand dollars for not having health insurance.

“Everyone knows that the United States does not have universal healthcare and that it is ridiculously expensive when it comes to healthcare. I had heard horror stories, although at the time they were not on my mind. Now they always will be”, he closed.
