The Department of Education’s Federal Student Aid website, as well as as Nelnet phone lines crashed after US President Joe Biden announced student loan forgiveness
President Biden’s announcement about the forgiveness of student loans caused the Federal Student Aid website of the Department of Education, as well as the Nelnet telephone lines to collapse in a matter of minutes, according to The Washington Post
The StudentAid.gov site that explains Biden’s plan in depth also presented problems with the end of the day because “it was experiencing a high volume of visitors”, it could be read in the virtual wait to enter the website.
Downdetector indicated that it tracks interruptions, once it passed through the lobby, a banner on the home page read: “A lot of people are interested in our website. As a result, some pages may take longer than usual to display“.
And the problems continued until Wednesday night.
“We know you have questions about the cancellation of student loans. The Department of Education determines eligibility”, the borrowers wrote to StudentAid.gov who also collapsed the official page.
Biden’s plan will forgive up to $10, of federal loans for people who earn less than $125, per year, or less than $250,000 for married couples filing jointly, and will forgive up to $31,000 if they had received a Pell Grant. He also announced that federal student loan payments would be paused “for the last time” until 31 from December.
