California residents are being asked to conserve water due to historic drought, but some of California’s richest and most famous in the Los Angeles area are among those who use, and abuse, the largest amount of water.

The Las Virgenes Municipal Water District, which includes the communities of Westlake Village, Agoura Hills, Calabasas, and Hidden Hills, provides water to some of the largest residences with the most lush gardens and wealthiest clients in Southern California, including Kim and Kourtney Kardashian, Sylvester Stallone, Kevin Hart and Dwyane Wade

Celebrities were among more than 2,000 clients whom the Las Municipal Water District recently Virgenes issued “excess notices”, indicating that had exceeded the 150% of their monthly water budgets at least four times since the agency declared a drought emergency in the district late last yearo.

The district said those on the list have been warned. Many of them, including most celebrities, have said that they will cooperate and make efforts to reduce water consumption

Those who do not cooperate by further reducing water consumption run the risk of having a flow restriction device installed. flow that limits the amount of water entering their homes, from showers and bathrooms to lawn sprinkler systems.

19 clients have had the device installed for a period of two weeks.

A district spokesperson noted that it is difficult to impose financial penalties only on wealthy clients. For some, the device is the only way to force a change.

“There really is no other way to get around a clientele that has the means to pay huge water bills”, said the spokesman for the Municipal Water District of Las Vírgenes, Mike McNutt.

“The fines applied to your water bills don’t really have an impact. What does have an impact is creating an aggravating circumstance for people to say, this bothers me. I want to be part of the solution instead of part of the problem”, he added.

The former mayor of Calabasas, Barry Groveman, considered that residents must take steps to conserve water.

“The people need do it voluntarily. And if they don’t, stronger action will have to be taken because we’re all sharing it, and the drought is pretty obvious,” Groveman said.

About 70% of residential water use is outdoors, that is, watering lawns.

McNutt said the celebrities on the list are already cooperating and trust that they use their platforms to help reduce water consumption.

Sylvester Stallone’s attorney said the family of his client works to reduce his water consumption.

“My client has been approaching the situation responsibly and proactively”, said the lawyer Marty Singer.

“The grasses have been left to die and other areas are irrigated by a drip irrigation system. They have also notified the city of the mature trees and are awaiting an inspection and further instructions from the city on how to proceed,” added the attorney.

McNutt considered that the best way to save water is to remove the grass.

Another tip to save water is to water the garden by hand instead of using sprinklers, and if you prefer the look of grass, artificial grass is a great option.
