Karim Benzema and Carlo Ancelotti, winners of a day in which the Spanish teams knew the name of their rivals in the group stage of the highest continental competition.

Ancelotti won the best coach and Benzema the best player, respectively. Under the umbrella of Real Madrid, the two won a gala which made it clear to the Premier League that the fight for hegemony in the best world football is not over yet.

Karim Benzema will probably be the first of some. After signing a stellar season, his award for best ‘UEFA Player of the Year’ will be, if there are no surprises, the prelude to the Ballon d’Or .

The French striker had his best season at Real Madrid. Framework 44 goals in 44 matches between LaLiga Santander (25 so many), the European Super Cup (2 ) and the Champions League () . In all these competitions, his team was champion and was one of the great protagonists.

He beat teammate Thibaut Courtois and Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City) in the final)

. He succeeded Jorginho (Chelsea) in the list of winners and when he received the award, he remembered as his best day of the course the second leg of the round of 16 of the Champions League that he played against Paris Saint-Germain.

“I want to thank my club, my coach, my president, my colleagues… Without all of them I could not be here. Ancelotti is the best coach in the world, he gives me a lot of confidence, he is a great professional. I am happy that he is my coach”.

And, precisely, Ancelotti, the architect of the winning Real Madrid, got the title to the best ‘UEFA Coach of the Year’. He conquered it ahead of Pep Guardiola (Manchester City) and Jurgen Klopp (Liverpool). And in the first place, Arrigo Sacchi appeared on his list of thanks, who at the same gala received the UEFA President award that recognizes “an achievement outstanding individual or group, whose impact transcends the game”.

“Thanks to Arrigo Sacchi, who he was a great teacher for me. I have to thank my players, my club, my coaching staff. Also thank our fans for those great and several nights at the Santiago Bernabéu. And to my president, who has given me the opportunity to return to Real Madrid. To all my family (whom he cited one by one), too, which gives me space to do my job”Carlo Ancelotti

The next season will continue the fight and the next awards to the best of the course awarded by UEFA, will pass sentence.
