Flash flooding in eastern Riverside County this Wednesday afternoon washed out a section of the Expressway 10 eastbound, which caused a huge traffic disruption on this road.

Caltrans reported shortly after 7: 30 pm that the Highway 10 in the area of Desert Center, east of Corn Springs Road, was closed in both directions due to flooding and a truck rollover.

Although vehicular traffic in the westbound lanes began to move slowly at night, Eastbound lanes remain closed for an indefinite period, according to the agency.

“At the same time, the route State Route Alternate 675 was blocked by downed power lines, which also made it impassable,” said California Highway Patrol (CHP) Officer Jordan Girard.

“Currently, eastbound traffic on the Interstate 10 is deviating onto State Route 86. Alternate routes include the Interstate 10 northbound to the Interstate 40”, reported the officer.

Flooding also forced the closure of the state highway 78 in both directions at 14th Avenue near the town of Blythe.

Highway 10 is used to transport cargo to destinations in the entire country after it arrives at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.

Caltrans crews are working to repair the damaged section of the Expressway 10, CHP said.

The Southern California Edison company is also working to clear the state highway 177 of the power lines that were down.

No estimated completion time was provided for any of operations.

The state route 62 is closed in both directions from the state route 95 to the interstate 95 due to flooding that occurred around midnight.

Caltrans recommended using the Interstate 15 or Interstate 8 for those traveling to Arizona and east.

The National Weather Service announced multiple flash flood warnings for the closure area through Thursday night.
