Dozens of students at Robb Elementary, where the Uvalde massacre occurred, started the new school year in a school that now has reinforced security measures.

Joseph Olan, director of the Colegio del Sagrado Corazón, reported that near 60 students who studied on the campus where the school massacre occurred are part of their student community as of this Monday.

However, for at least 30 surviving students of the tragic massacre 24 of May, their future is outside of this school, since they received scholarships awarded by the organization Catholic Extension.

The beneficiaries began the new school year this Monday at the school of Sacred Heart, which is located near the place where the tragedy occurred last 24 of May.

Among the children who received scholarships are 11 who suffered gunshot wounds during the school shooting in which they died 15 students and two teachers.

Catholic Extension indicated that about 80 families have requested that their children be transferred from the Uvalde School District after the tragedy, that shook the population, in their majority of Hispanic origin.

Because they are low-income families (some work in the agricultural fields) they cannot pay the tuition of a private school, so the nonprofit For-profits are looking for resources to help them.

A students are also provided counseling from a specialist located at the school to help them deal with any trauma they may continue to experience after surviving the shooting .

“Catholic Extension is committed to providing care and support to the children of Uvalde families. The scholarships awarded to study at Sacred Heart School will provide a safe and loving environment for children who have suffered both physical and emotional wounds due to violence,” Father Jack Wall, president of the organization, said in the statement.

Last June, the Mayor of Uvalde, Don McLaughlin, in a meeting with the residents of the city, who demand answers after the massacre, he said that the building would be demolished, although he did not specify the date, and As of today, the return to school tomorrow has been announced.
