The CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk, assured that the company will increase the number of workers compared to those it currently has, but before it will continue with your plan to lay off 42% of your salaried employees.

Musk has sent somewhat contradictory signals in recent weeks in relation to the workforce, his electric car assembly company, about the number of salaried workers such as those who they are paid by the hour.

“In a year’s time, I believe that our workforce will be larger both in salaried workers and obviously in hours. But in the short term, in the coming months, we expect to see a reduction of approximately 10% in the salaried workforce,” said the CEO of Tesla in a video broadcast at the Qatar Economic Forum.

Agree with the billionaire, the announced cut will represent between 3% and 3.5% of the total workers that Tesla has hired, which Musk himself described as “something not very important”.

Musk did not offer more details about his new plans to hire more workers, nor if he will do it in any of the specific areas of Tesla or in any of its factories in the United States or Europe.

However, it did go into detail about the announcement that made him fire 10% of his salaried workforce, arguing that the number of Tesla employees “grew too fast”.

“It is quite c It is clear that we hope to increase our hourly workforce. We grew very fast on the salaried side and we grew too fast in some areas, so it requires a reduction in the salaried workforce,” he said, according to a report published by CNN.

Until the end of 2021, Tesla had a workforce of 100,000 workers around the world, of which approximately 42% were hired at one of the company’s plants outside the United States.

Recently, the company opened two factories, one on the outskirts of Berlin, in Germany, and another in the vicinity of Austin, Texas, in which it has increased the number of workers specialized in production processes .

More workers, but with salaries controlled

After announcing his plans to increase the number of Tesla workers in the next year, Musk limited that jobs will grow, but not wages.

In a message posted on their Twitter account, of which some employees have said that they are ashamed for the consequences it has had for the company, clarified that salaries at Tesla will not increase.

“The total workforce will increase, but wages should be fairly stable,” Musk said.
