The advancement of technology has allowed the capacity of storage devices to increase rapidly. This has made it possible for people to store more and more information occupying a smaller volume.
Gone are the days when to store a Word file and be able to transfer it physically from one computer to another it was necessary to use a diskette. These units had an average memory of less than 1 MB, something that today may seem ridiculous.
However, some people still remember the days when this was the most common method of storing information outside of a computer. Such is the case of the youtuber Franklinstein, who created a floppy disk that can store 512 GB of data.
The content creator ensured that they make the necessary modifications to be able to increase the storage of a unit floppy disk, as they are technically known, only took a few minutes.
The reason for this, as he himself explained through a video posted on Youtube, is that he did not create a floppy disk that was capable of connecting to a computer . Instead, what Franklinstein did was turn the floppy disk case into a kind of case, inside which the content creator stored several microSD memories that together offer 512 GB of storage.
In the recording it can be seen as the only real change within the unit, in addition of the elimination of the magnetizing sheet, is the incorporation of a kind of cardboard mold in which the memories can be inserted so that they remain in the same place
“Lo all people have to do is remove the memory they want to use and insert it into their equipment. Then they just have to remove it and put it back on the floppy disk”, said the content creator.
He commented that although referring to a floppy disk with 128 GB of capacity, this is not the first thing that comes to mind, in practice it is not a lie, since the device really has that amount of memory inside.
He added that if the necessary diskettes were stacked to achieve that amount of storage, the tower that would form would be about 3,900 feet tall, which would represent a structure taller than the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world at 2,717 feet.
