“Canelo's fans stabbed him in the back”: José Benavidez admitted his happiness at seeing Saúl Álvarez lose

Great boxing personalities have given their perspective on that fight. José Benavidez considers that the questions about the man from Guadalajara are a stab in the back from his own followers.

“He (David Benavidez) gained more fans. A lot of people thought that Canelo was the monster that no one could beat him. Now all the fans he had, stabbed him in the backa”, David Benavidez’s father explained in an interview for FightHype.

The criticisms about Canelo already they were daily bread, but with their fall in Las Vegas they became even more acute . Many considered that Saúl Álvarez’s detractors were anxiously awaiting this defeat and José Benavidez’s own testimony can confirm this theory.

“I was super excited to see that fight. I was impressed (…) When Bivol was doing really well, I thought: ‘I hope they don’t steal him’. In the end I was super happy to be honest because Canelo lost and now David is mentioned more ”, he revealed.

On the other hand, one of the things that caused the defeat of Saúl Álvarez is an increase in the popularity of David Benavidez. José explained that due to the vulnerability of the Tapatio now they begin to trust their son.
