The “Wings of Mexico”, a sculpture by the Mexican artist Jorge Marín and which symbolizes the friendship between Mexico and the United States, was unveiled this Monday in Griffith Park, where the Griffith Observatory is located.

The sculpture can be admired by the public in one of the representative places of the city of Los Angeles.

“I am very grateful to all the institutions and people who have worked to make it possible for today my ‘Wings of Mexico’ to have landed at the Griffith Observatory, an emblematic site for the city of Los Angeles”, said the artist Jorge Marín.

“I hope that this permanent location promotes the fullness that art can arouse as an instrument of coexistence, reflection and interaction between the public and its environment,” added the sculptor.

Marín mentioned that, in each of the cities in the world where they have been exhibited, the “Wings of Mexico” have created a setting for gatherings of people , which can reflect on the permanent search for freedom that characterizes human nature.

“For me, the permanence of the ‘Wings of Mexico’ in the public space has profound meanings. It is, above all, the symbol of multiple similar works scattered around the world. It is my greatest desire to contribute to creating an increasingly supportive and harmonious society, through art”, he said.

At the unveiling of the sculpture were present the mayor of the city of Los Angeles, Eric Garcetti; the consul general of Mexico in Los Angeles, Amb. Marcela Celorio; the United States Ambassador to Mexico, Ken Salazar; the president and councilor of the Los Angeles City Council, Nury Martinez, as well as councilor Nithya Raman.
