The life of primary school teacher Arnulfo Reyes was marked forever, from one moment to the next, the students in his third and fourth graders at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas, witnessed and were victims of one of the worst shootings in America.

As had already been made known, Reyes was wounded by Salvador Ramos, who killed 19 students and two teachers, but pretended to be dead for more than one hour to survive the massacre.

Now, from the hospital, he remembers every second of that fateful episode, as he mentioned to ABC News, where resumed the debate around the police action, which took 19 minutes to enter to arrest Ramos.

“ They are cowards,” Reyes said. “They sat there and did nothing for our community. It took them a long time to get in… I will never forgive them”, she insisted with a broken voice.

However, he goes further, saying that “The only thing I know is that I will not let these children and my co-workers die in vain”, said. “I will go to the ends of the earth to make sure things change. If that’s what I have to do for the rest of my life, I’ll do it”.

Reyes recovers from physical injuries, but not of the emotional ones, for that reason he said that from now on he will dedicate himself to making sure that this never happens again.

“ I feel so bad for the parents because they lost a son,” Reyes told him, “But they lost a son. I lost 11 that day, all at once”.

From his hospital bed in San Antonio, less than two weeks after surviving the second deadliest school shooting in the history of the United States, Reyes swears that the students did not “die in vain”.
