Coast Guard calls off search for swimmer reported missing off Newport Beach

After 27 hours, the United States Coast Guard determined to suspend the search for a swimmer who had been reported missing

over the weekend off the coast of Newport Beach, Orange County.

The swimmer of 48 years old, whose identity was not revealed by the authorities, disappeared after swimming alone on the beaches of Corona del Mar.

Man was last seen wearing blue biker shorts and did not return to shore when expected at approximately 4: 00 saturday pm, time when I was going to see a friend.

The victim’s acquaintance was the one who reported the swimmer’s disappearance to the authorities.

The Coast Guard had deployed a boat and a helicopter for the search tasks from Point Mugu.

The agency reported that the rescue teams had withdrawn after a work of 27 hours, in which they performed 12 search patterns that had encompassed close to 152 square miles, off the coast of Orange County.
