Los Angeles shaken by a magnitude 4.3 earthquake near Trona with significant tremors felt downtown

A quake of magnitude 4.3 shook Los Angeles in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Significant earthquakes were felt in the city of California after of the earthquake around 2 am local time.

The United States Geological Survey said the earthquake occurred near the town of Trona.

The state alert system was activated by the tremors, they added.

The USGS tweeted: “Good morning South California. Did you feel the magnitude 4.3 earthquake south of Trona at 2: 23 am?

“The #ShakeAlert system was activated”.

A Twitter user responded: “¡ Yes, I felt it!

“I am in Littlerock and was sitting on my bed reading when I felt a strong shake from west to east, at the same weather my west wall made a slight cracking/settlement sound!”

Meteorologist Zach Covey tweeted: “A 4.3 magnitude earthquake has hit California , and the tremor was felt in downtown Los Angeles.

“I don’t know damage has been reported with this earthquake, but this is a significant size earthquake for California.”

Online there were more reactions to the earthquake with one Twitter user writing: “When an earthquake happens in Los Angeles and you know you’re not going to sleep anymore before the alarm goes off at 6: 00 am #earthquake”.

Another added: “Did you feel that? I was finally falling asleep and the earth shook.”

On average, Los Angeles experiences five earthquakes each year, varying in magnitude and destruction.

Los Angeles is located on the Ring of Fire fault along with other California cities such as San Francisco.

Runs along the western coast of the Americas, across the Pacific and up through New Zealand, Indonesia and Japan, the countries most prone to devastating earthquakes.

Experts say that California is due another great apocalyptic tremor, which they have already called “The Big One”.

Will be on par with the 7.8 earthquake that centered on San Francisco in 1906.

The city was almost destroyed and it is estimated that 3,000 Dead people.
