4 dairy companies with the worst quality practices in the US

Julio Guzmán

More and more people have switched from animal milk to vegetable milk. The growing adoption of new diets among the new generations, environmental concerns, health and animal welfare could explain the panorama.

A recent study by the Arla dairy company says that the 15% of generation Z, –people born between 1997 and 2012–, said he felt embarrassed when asking for dairy products in public. The lack of transparency of traditional dairy companies, in environmental matters and animal care could make more and more people choose other alternatives.

one. Nestlé

The Swiss food and beverage multinational has more than 450 manufacturing plants in more 80 countries. On several occasions cases of animal cruelty have been reported inside its facilities. In 2019 Animal Outlook exposed the abuse of mother cows and their calves at Martin Farms. In addition, its declaration of animal welfare has not been updated since 2014, points out the site Eat This, Not That.

two. Meijer Organics

This company obtained its milk from Natural Prairie Dairy, Texas, which was exhibited at 2019 by Animal Recovery Mission for animal abuse, untreated infections, too frequent milking and violent insemination. Although it cut relations with the farm some time later, the plan with which the company guarantees the welfare of the animals is unknown, the website points out.

3. Dean Foods
