The authorities of the state of Texas reported that at least students and two adults lost their lives when a young man from 18 years shot up indiscriminately at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, a town about 135 kilometers from San Antonio.

During the first statements after the incident, the state governor, Greg Abbott, identified the attacker as Salvador Ramos, of 18 years.

He also confirmed that the young man died, although it is not clear under what circumstances.

According to the president Ramos abandoned his vehicle and entered the school with a pistol and possibly a rifle.

During a vigil that was held near the school, Karla Bohman, a citizen of Uvalde, told the story of a friend of his family, who still doesn’t know anything about his daughter, a student at school.

“They don’t know if she is in surgery or if she is one of the fatal victims, but they do they know he’s a victim of some kind because he doesn’t show up,” she said through tears.

Cheryl Juhasz, another Uvalde resident, added: “An evil like that cannot be understood. It doesn’t matter where it happens, but it’s harder when it happens at home”.

Robb Elementary School has an enrollment of about 500 students and almost the 90% of them are Latino. The last day of school before summer break was scheduled for next Thursday.

The local police chief , Pete Arredondo, also gave a short press conference on Tuesday and explained that this elementary school is attended by boys and girls in 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade, which would indicate that the ages of the victims range between 7 and 10 years.

The authorities warned that the number of fatalities in the incident could increase in the coming hours, given that several injured people were transferred to care centers in the area.

At least two cases are known, that of a woman from 66 years old and a girl of 10, who would be in critical condition in the area university hospital.
