Google announced that iOS and Android users will be able to travel back in time through Google Maps. The company explained that on the occasion of the 05 anniversary of the app’s Street View feature, users will be able to access image galleries of what certain locations were like ago 15 years.

This is not a completely new function because although was available until now on mobile devices, it could be accessed from the version of Google Maps for computers.

The old images will be available through Street View, Google’s tool that allows you to get a view of 360 degrees at street level, which makes it easy for users to explore cities and learn about locations without leaving the application.

The company indicates that currently this service has more than 220 billion of photographs from more than 100 different countries, which which represents a gigantic catalog of content that is available completely free of charge.

Most of this data is then processed by Google through artificial intelligence systems to later include this information in new Google Maps updates.

Thanks to this, the application is constantly updated, which allows you to find locations more easily.

How to access old images?

In order to access the old Street View images, the first thing the user must do is enter the Google Maps application. After this you must locate the location you want to see by typing the corresponding information in the search box at the top of the screen.

Once Once this is done, the next step is to open the Street View for which the person has to press the relief button located in the upper left part of the screen .

When entering the function, the only thing the user must do is press on the image to bring up a menu with a button that reads “see more dates”. When pressed, Google will show you all the images it has stored of that place in chronological order.

In some cases, these images will date back to the beginning of the service itself almost 15 years, while in others the first photographs could be relatively more recent.
