The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), in conjunction with the Port of Long Beach
, will offer the opportunity for trucking companies and commercial drivers who in need of a motor carrier permit to obtain one during a 3-day event, from 24 to the 26 of May.
In California, a carrier’s permit is required to conduct various business and transportation activities, including moving goods for compensation , transport with a commercial vehicle with more than 000,000 pounds of weight and the transport of hazardous materials.
Drivers who operate vehicles that require a commercial driver’s license, need permission as proof of who have registered their California carrier identification number with the Department of Motor Vehicles.
New motor carriers must apply for a permit before going into operation, and have the opportunity to apply online , plus permit renewals must also be completed online.
During the event in Long Beach, DMV staff will offer assistance to permit applicants in completing their original and renewal applications, as well as provide information to truckers to check the status of your permits and provide vehicle registration assistance.
This event is organized by the Port of Long Beach in partnership with the Transportation Security Administration and identity certification firm IDEMIA.
Will take place from 24 to the 26 May, from 8: 30 am to 4: 30 pm, at the Port of Long Beach Terminal Access Center, 1265 Harbor Avenue, Long Beach (southwest corner of Harbor Avenue and West Anaheim Street).
DMV first partnered with the Port of Long Beach in December of 2021 to provide permit assistance to 200 commercial truck drivers. Thanks to the success of this event and the continuing need to collaborate on national supply chain issues, led the DMV and its partners to offer the event again.
The DMV offers commercial road tests in 27 locations throughout the state, including 13 with appointments on Saturday.
The department also increased the amount of staff available to administer exams and assign additional examiners to areas of greatest demand to significantly expand exam capacity and appointment availability

For most DMV paperwork, an in-person office visit is not required. The DMV encourages all customers to use its online services and other service channels to complete transactions , including eligible driver license and vehicle registration renewals.
