The Barça coach, Xavi Hernández, considered that his team cannot be “another blank year” after the team Barça lost 0-2 to Villarreal at the Camp Nou on the last day of LaLiga Santander and thus ended a season in which they did not win any title.
“We have to be satisfied , although not happy, with the balance of the last six months. We have saved a season that could have been disastrous with qualifying for the Champions League and the Spanish Super Cup. In November we were below minimum”, added the Barça coach at a press conference.
Xavi explained that “now the work begins in the offices, which may be more important than what happens on the pitch”. Thus, the Barça coach believed that “we must strengthen ourselves to opt for all the titles and be able to compete”. In addition, he said that “in a big club like Barça you have to change a lot of things when you don’t win titles”.
Asked if one of the signings could be Neymar, Xavi recalled that “he has a contract with PSG” and that he sees it as “very difficult”. And he revealed that it is a subject on which he has not spoken with President Joan Laporta.
On the other hand, regarding whether Ousmane Dembélé was able to play his last game as a Barça player this Sunday, Xavi did not rule anything out: “Each footballer goes where they want, where they think they can be happy. I can only speak highly of Ousmane , his behavior has been impeccable and he has been decisive in some games. There is a negotiation involved, we will see what happens”.
