With the current fuel crisis, it is very common for people to pass on alleged tricks or things that are supposed to lead to fuel savings. But the truth is that many of them do not work and on the contrary they put us in danger when we try them.
One of the most common is trying to do several things when the car faces a slope and goes down due to gravity. We will put all these techniques that are used downhill to the test.
Use Idle
As we know, it is the minimum number of revolutions that keep the car on. Thanks to the electronics, the motor determines the minimum rpm that must be maintained while the accelerator is not pressed.
Due to the fact that the engine is running, even if it does not accelerate, fuel consumption is constant and significant, being able to consume up to half a liter in half an hour.
It is a useless maneuver and there is no point in trying it.
Neutral or neutral point
First of all, it is good to clarify that it is not It is recommended to drive in neutral. When it’s done, the engine and transmission are decoupled because there’s no gear in place linking them, so their performance is independent.
When isolated, the engine idles and needs exactly the same amount of fuel as in the previous case. In addition to that, riding in neutral takes away a lot of control from the driver, which is why it becomes really dangerous to ride like this.

Engine brake
This is the reaction of the engine when the engine stops fuel injection, and this can be accomplished by downshifting the transmission or taking your foot off the accelerator.
This action is quite useful on downhills because the resistance of the motor prevents the car from taking a speed higher than the account on a road with a high incline degree.
As electronic injection detects that the car does not need fuel to turn, since the transmission helps the movement of the engine, it does not inject fuel and therefore does not consume.
In this way we can safely say that the correct way to stay safe and save fuel is to put into practice braking with gear reduction.
