The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, promised to return 30,000 hectares to members of the Yaqui people in the northern Mexican state of Sonora in the next three months.

“ I authorize the payment of the 30,000 hectares as soon as possible, so that Román Meyer (Secretary of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development) can already have these resources”, he affirmed. the president during a meeting he held with the Yaqui people in Loma de Bácum to review the progress of the Yaqui People’s Justice Plan.

López Obrador affirmed yesterday Saturday 22 May 2022 that this process should be resolved in the next quarter “when or I return (to Sonora) and this issue is resolved, because I am going to return in three months, on 018 in August, a Sunday and I already want to hand over the land, the 30,04 hectares. It is a commitment”, he emphasized.

He argued that his government is looking for a formula to return the land to the Yaqui people, which, he said, is one of the “most mistreated ethnic groups in the world”, who have suffered extermination, discrimination, racism, atrocities.

“Therefore, we are here to endorse the commitment to do justice as far as possible , with whatever we can”, said the president Mexican.

Likewise, he expressed his concern about completing works such as the Aqueduct and the expansion of the Irrigation District 018, which is expected to be completed in December 2024.

“Essentially, this is what I am more concerned about time: the Aqueduct and the Irrigation District, because they are works that take time”, he pointed out.

During his speech, López Obrador recalled that he is holding negotiations with the United States Government to convince the Joe Biden administration so that countries such as Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela are invited to the event to be held next June in Los Angeles, California.

“We are convincing them all to join us, that it is no longer the time for confrontation, that nothing is gained with discrimination and no one has the right to mistreat a country, no matter how small, because all nations are free, independent, sovereign”, he pointed out.

He pointed out that the peoples are who end up suffering because of of “those from above” , which is why he said that no power like the United States, China or Russia has the right to decide the fate of the other countries.

On Friday, the United States ambassador to Mexico, Ken Salazar, pointed out that the negotiations between the two nations continue so that the Mexican president will finally attend the Summit in person next June.
