Armed battle between two cars during graduation ceremony left two suspects detained

Two possible suspects in a shooting during a high school graduation have been arrested after the armed confrontation during the ceremony left two people injured.

Two of five people detained at a traffic stop in Livonia, Michigan are believed to be involved in the shooting, the police said.

The shooting erupted outside East Kentwood High School Thursday night.

On Kent County Sheriff said a 40-year-old boy and woman were hit during the shootout between two white sedans.

The child of 16 He suffered gunshot wounds to the wrist and is reportedly in stable condition.

The woman underwent surgery on Friday after being shot in the wrist and abdomen. She is in critical but stable condition, according to ABC13.

The shots were reported around 7: 20 pm local time, when the graduation ceremony was taking place at Crossroads Alternative High School in Kentwood, Michigan, police said.

Sixty students, their families, friends and teachers were in the stadium at East Kentwood High when gunfire erupted.

“My suspicion is that they are just bystanders who were here at the time of this arms exchange,” Sheriff Michele LaJoye-Young said of the two victims.

Sheriff said his officers believe there were at least two shooters.

Video from the scene showed crime tape and police blocking off much of the parking lot next to the stadium.

“A celebration as it is This is something that unites the family, makes us feel more united as a community, proud of our young people and what they are achieving,” said the bailiff.

“It is very difficult for this to have happened in this community at this time of celebration”.

The local superintendent also issued a statement, saying: “When violence occurs within our community, it is both worrying and tragic.

“We remain committed to the health and safety of our community and will provide support and advice to any student who needs help.”

The shooting outside a Michigan school on Thursday came just before another shooting at a Louisiana high school graduation .

Four people were injured at the ceremony held at the University of Southeastern Louisiana.

One person was killed while another was seriously injured after graduation from Riverdale High School.

Witnesses said they heard between six and eight shots.

Last week, one person was killed and three others were injured in a shooting outside a high school graduation ceremony in Arkansas.
