Taylor Swift continues to add recognition to his extensive career, Well, this 18 May 2022 received an honorary doctorate from New York University (NYU). Additionally, the music star in his cap and gown gave a commencement speech to the class of 2016 of this institution.

“Miss Swift is one of the most prolific and celebrated artists of her generation. She is the only female artist in history to win the highest honor in the industry, the Grammy for Best Album of the Year, on 3 occasions (…) She is the only solo artist of this century who has three albums to reach number 1 in a year”, was what NYU explained in a statement about the decision to name the singer doctor honoris causa in Fine Arts.

This was one of the dreams of the interpreter of “All Too Well”, who did not attend university, since his career in the country industry began at 16 years. In an interview with “Vogue” magazine in 2022, Swift assured that this was one of her goals, saying jokingly that “Ed Sheeran has one and I feel like he looks down on me because I don’t.”

In her speech for the graduates of this year’s class, the singer spoke in a very light and funny way about the teachings that her career has given her, but stated that “I am 90 percent sure that the main reason why I’m here is because I have a song called ’11 ‘ (in coincidence with the current year)”.

“I want to thank NYU for making me technically, at least on paper, a doctor. Not the kind of doctor you’d want by your side in an emergency, unless your emergency is very specific and you desperately need to hear a song with a catchy hook and a cathartic bridge, or your emergency is that you need someone who can name the 50 cat breeds in a minute”, said the singer.

Some of the advice that Taylor Swift gave to students was that they should “decide what is yours and let go of the rest”, “learn to be ashamed of yourself”, “never feel ashamed of trying something, lack of effort is a myth”. To end her speech, she told the graduates to “inhale, take a deep breath, exhale… I am already a doctor, so I know how breathing works”.
